Minor disruptions on trail at Seaford
Construction of a new pedestrian crossing on the rail line at Seaford may impact riders over the next two months.

Metro Trains is replacing the existing crossing at Coolibar Avenue, which links to the Kananook Creek Trail / Bay Trail on the coastal side of the track.

It is used by many walkers and riders to connect from the nearby neighbourhoods in Seaford either south to Seaford shopping precinct and Frankston or north to Carrum via the trail.

Works are expected to be underway until 12 December.

During this time, the crossing between Coolibar Avenue and Riviera Street will be temporarily closed, and detours will be in place via Eel Race Road (north) and Armstrongs Road (south).

To help reduce disruption on bike routes:

  • works will run continuously across two months
  • clear signage will guide cyclists and pedestrians to alternate routes
  • any impacts to the Kananook Creek Shared User Path or Trail Bridge will be communicated in advance.
The upgrade will improve safety and accessibility for all users, including people on bikes.

Key improvements include:
  • new emergency swing gates, crossing alarm bells and lighting
  • a redesigned layout to improve scooter and bike mobility
  • new tactile ground surface indicators – textured ground markers to help people with vision impairments safely navigate the crossing
  • resurfaced footpaths on both sides of the crossing.
