Riders travelling into the city centre from the north via Swanston Street will encounter different traffic conditions until mid year due to the Metro Tunnel Project.
Works on Franklin Street east are underway close to the road at Swanston Street, resulting in a constrained space for pedestrians and bike riders.
The Metro Tunnel Project had managed to devise a narrow footpath and a separated bike lane, which is close to the tram track.
Observations show this temporary arrangement to be working acceptably, however, riders should continue to take care through the zone.
Across the road, work has been progressing on Franklin Street west, with the footpath and bike lane soon to be open on the permanent alignment. The east-bound traffic lane on Franklin will also reopen at the intersection.
Note that the Metro project will be closed for an extended 10-day break over Easter.
During this time, the north-bound bike lane will be obstructed at A’Beckett Street where the acoustic shed removal is temporarily paused.
