Mary Valley MTB trail study underway
A proposed mountain bike trail in the Mary Valley is undergoing a feasibility study with local residents encouraged to have their say.

Gympie Regional Council and Queensland Hydro are jointly considering developing a trail in the region known for its scenic countryside and rolling landscapes.

The feasibility study, funded through Queensland Hydro's community benefits program, includes 20 multiple-choice questions for residents to answer.

Questions include what kind of features residents would like to see on a mountain bike trail and how much time they currently spend exploring the Mary Valley.

The survey is open online until 5 September 2025.

"A trail of this scale would put Gympie and the Mary Valley on the map alongside other major trails like Blue Derby in Tasmania and Mystic Park in Victoria," said Gympie Mayor Glen Hartwig.

"As well as giving an insight on preferred locations, the study will provide a much better understanding of how the proposal would be received by residents first and foremost, and tourists visiting the region.

"The number of tourists a trail such as this might attract is sure to be a great outcome for local businesses and boost for the local economy."
