Name the new bridge
A new bridge is replacing the old structure that connects Coburg to Preston over the Merri Creek, known as the Harding Street Bridge.

Riders through the area now have an opportunity to suggest a name for the new bridge, which will greatly improve the convenience and safety for riders and walkers.

The bridge is a joint initiative of the adjoining municipalities, Merri-bek and Darebin.
The old structure was just 1.2 metres wide while the replacement will be 4 metres and will be on an improved alignment.

Construction of the new structure will start mid 2026.

The old bridge will remain until the new one is completed so that a crossing remains available during the works.

Preference will be given to name suggestions that are meaningful to the local community, including names that:
• are traditional Woi-wurrung or other Aboriginal names
• acknowledge the role of groups or communities in Merri-bek
• acknowledge the contributions of Merri-bek or Darebin's cultural communities
• acknowledge important social and historical events that happened on or near the site
•are names of women who have contributed to Merri-bek's development.
