Let’s make an impact in local council elections this October
Community groups and individuals are encouraged to join Streets People Love, a campaign, looking to make an impact in the upcoming Victorian local government elections. The campaign needs volunteers across Victoria to get in touch with their local candidates and volunteers will be supported with candidate surveys and social media material via streetspeoplelove.org website, which will be launched on Bicycle Network is calling for donations to help with campaign expenses such as printing flyers and will coordinate funds across areas with the strongest need for support. How can you get involved? Nearly all bike, scooter and mobility device trips, whether for transport or recreation, start on local residential streets. Don’t wait to be contacted. If you’ve got a strong position on creating healthy, active local neighbourhoods take the survey here and your responses will be published and scored on the Streets People Love campaign website. There are 78 councils going to the polls this Victorian council election. We’re calling on our members and friends, and anyone who wants to see better conditions for a bike riding, walking and mobility devices, to support the campaign. You can use the survey on the streetspeoplelove.org website to encourage your councillors to make local streets that encourage people to be healthy and active. If you’ve got a local infrastructure project, road, speed limit or initiative you’d like to see the council support, it’s worth raising that too. Send your responses to contact@streetspeoplelove.org and help us score the candidates in your local area. We’ll finalise scoring by: Wednesday 2 October Ballot packs will be posted to all enrolled voters. To find your candidates or for further information about your local council visit the Victorian Electoral Commission website. Please note: All councils will have elections, except Moira Shire Council.
