Don’t ban e-bikes – Here’s the truth
Here’s the truth:
There are no known cases of fires involving e-bikes with batteries that meet EU safety standards on our trains. Incidents in Australia have involved cheap, non-compliant imported batteries, not the high-quality e-bikes many people rely on every day for commuting, health, and affordable transport.
This proposal risks penalising responsible riders and undermines active, sustainable travel choices.
Have your say before 18 August
The Victorian Government is currently seeking feedback through a public consultation process. It only takes 5 minutes to add your voice and help stop this misguided ban.
Submit your feedback here:

What to include in your submission:
Your message can be short or detailed. Here are some prompts to help:
- If you ride an e-bike – explain how and why you use it
- If you know someone who rides – share their story and why this matters
- If you aspire to ride an e-bike – explain why train access is important to you
- Describe the negative impact this ban would have on your life
(e.g. making it harder to commute, connect to education, manage a disability, stay active, or reduce costs)
- Why you believe e-bikes with safe, EU-compliant batteries should remain allowed on trains
How to submit:

- Read the first page and click “Next”
- Answer three simple questions
