Thousands rely on e-bikes to get to work, study and stay connected. 

A ban on people travelling with e-bikes on public transport would put that freedom at risk. Speak up now and tell your MP to stop the ban.

“Victoria is still facing the possibility of a ban on people travelling with e-bikes on public transport — and we need your support.” 

Last week, we met with Minister Gabrielle Williams and came away with the sense that a ban could still be imminent. The process will now need to continue through Cabinet. While we understand this step must occur, we remain deeply concerned about the impact such a ban would have on people who rely on e-bikes every day to access work, education and their communities. 

More than 3,000 submissions were made to the consultation — a huge response for any process, and one that shows how deeply Victorians care about this issue. To keep the pressure on, we are urging all riders and supporters to contact your local MP and let them know how a ban would affect you personally.

In New South Wales, the government has taken a targeted approach — restricting modified and illegal e-bike battery kits, which are the cause of most lithium-ion battery fires. We believe Victoria should adopt this consistent, evidence-based approach that protects safety while allowing compliant e-bikes to remain on public transport. On Monday 1 September, Bicycle Network hosted a forum about e-bikes and asked our audience about their e-bike experience and use.

The forum heard from Victoria Police, Bicycle Network, Bicycle Industries Association, Bicycle NSW and our members.
