Bridge closure on Federation Trail

Riders on the Federation Trail face disruption for several weeks due to the closure of the bridge over the Skeleton Creek at Hoppers Crossing.

There are no other nearby crossings of the creek with easy access to the trail.

A detour will be in place (see yellow route on map) but will require riders to take care at crossings and driveways.

The closures are in response to significant works along the section of the trail from Forsyth Road to the Skeleton Creek as part of the Green the Pipeline Project, a linear park project along the old Melbourne Outfall Sewer corridor.

The trail has been upgraded to a three metre concrete path and includes landscaping and community spaces.

Riders are advised that the section of the trail from Skeleton Creek Bridge to Dunlop Road will be closed to the public from Monday 20 November 2023 until early December, for works on a new section of the path.

Trail riders will need to use the paths, or Forsyth Road and Old Geelong Road, or alternative routes to get back on to the Federation Trail.

Other existing detours remain as they are for the duration of these works.

On the map Red = Closed path, Yellow = Detour, Green = Open, Orange (dashed) = Alternative detour for local access.

The photo above shows a nearby recently constructed section the trail with new lighting.
