Witton Bluff Base Trail complete
The Witton Bluff Base Trail is now officially open to the public, connecting Christies Beach and Port Noarlunga in Adelaide with a fully accessible shared use pathway.

Stage 1 of the $9.3 million project – a 420-metre boardwalk from Port Noarlunga to the tip of the bluff – was completed in December 2024.

Now Stage 2 – a 660-metre stretch of asphalt path connecting the end of the boardwalk with Christies Beach, and the upgrading of the seawall – is complete.

The 3m-wide trail, which was jointly funded by state, federal and local governments and has been years in the making, provides locals and visitors with a new way to experience Adelaide's dramatic southern coastline while keeping active.

The project has also delivered new protection for the coastline. The bluff's ageing seawall has been reshaped and reinforced with more than 20,000 tonnes of rock, guarding against erosion and rising sea levels.

The Witton Bluff Base Trail is a cornerstone of the state government's Coast Park vision: a network of walking and cycling paths stretching along 70 kilometres of metropolitan shoreline.

State Member for Kaurna, Chris Picton, said the project's completion was a milestone for the community.

"It is incredibly exciting to now have the Witton Bluff Base Trail complete, connecting our wonderful Christies Beach and Port Noarlunga communities," he said.

"This has been a desire for decades and I want to thank all the community who joined us together in calling for this upgrade. This is a testament to what we have been able to achieve together.

"The path is a three-metre-wide accessible shared-use path that locals and visitors alike will be able to enjoy our coastline on and promotes physical activity and local businesses."
