Temporary boom gates on the Main Yarra Trail
Traffic conditions have changed for riders who use the Main Yarra Trail link through Fairfield Park.

Construction is underway adjacent to where the trail heads east from Yarra Bend Road towards the Yarra River where bikes can cross on the pipe track.

Because of the number of trucks servicing the construction site, temporary boom gates have been installed on the trail where it crosses Yarra Bend Road to better control traffic movements and reduce risk.

Riders also join and depart the Main Yarra Trail from Yarra Bend Road at this location.

The gates are typically lowered when trucks are arriving or departing the construction site, causing short delays.

A traffic controller is present to stop traffic and operate the boom gates, which are independently controlled, meaning both have to be either fully open or closed before the operator indicates stop or go to traffic.

It is important that riders are patient and wait until they are given the go-ahead, otherwise safety could be compromised.
