The City of Coffs Harbour is seeking community feedback on its draft Active Transport Plan, which sets out a vision for making it easier to walk, ride, roll and scoot across the region.
The draft Active Transport Plan replaces the region's Pedestrian Access and Mobility Plan and Bike Plan (2014–2019) and will shape active transport in Coffs Harbour for the next decade.
The plan focuses on three key areas: making it safer to ride or walk to schools, constructing strategic paths to link key locations, and filling in missing links in the existing active transport network.
Among the key long-term projects outlined in the plan are:
-
connecting the northern beaches (the Coffs Harbour Bypass Project) by constructing a shared path from Sapphire Beach south to Korora and through to Charlesworth Bay Road, and from Charlesworth Bay Road to Coffs Harbour and to Park Beach via Diggers Beach
-
completing missing links at Arthur Street (Park Beach), Linden Avenue (Toormina/Boambee East), Shephards Lane (West Coffs Harbour) and Lyons Road (Sawtell)
-
installing or upgrading crossings on Toormina Road (Toormina), Albany Street (Coffs Harbour) and at the Hogbin Drive bike path at the northern end near Harbour Drive and the southern end near Sawtell Road.
The council plans to invest between $6 million and $15 million in active transport over the next ten years.
The City of Coffs Harbour wants to hear from community members about whether the draft plan addresses their concerns and makes it easier, safer and more enjoyable to get around via active transport.
