The Heyington Street Bridge, an important bike link across the Eastern Freeway in Doncaster, is open to riders and walkers.
It replaces an old sub-standard structure that was too short and too low to bridge across the widened freeway.
The new structure is 4 metres wide with a 90-metre span, weighing 232 tonnes.
It is a steel arch design with the deck suspended on cables.
The connecting ramp will provide attractive views of the re-aligned creek and wetlands below, still under construction.
It is one of a number of new structures for active transport infrastructure being delivered over the new few years by the North East Link Project.
Riders can access it via the Koonung Creek Trail which remains open during the works with detours at various locations.
