Tasmanian Bike Week is on 1-8 March and our social ride leaders are offering a wealth of rides in the south and north of the state. If you go along to a Bike Week ride and have your riding passion rekindled, there are many more rides coming up in April to keep you rolling.
Sunday 1 March – Extended Tranmere Trundle
Join ride leader David for the 33.5 km ride along the Foreshore Trail for some great views on Sunday 1 March.
Meet at the Simmons Park car park at 9.45 am for the ride mostly along the trail as far as Tranmere and return. A few sections of gravel path mean skinny tyres are not suitable.

Monday 2 March – Kangaroo Bay to Risdon Brook Dam and back
Explore the eastern shore’s bike-friendly paths, trails and quieter roads on the 31 km Kangaroo Bay to Risdon Brook Dam ride on Monday 2 March.
Meet ride leader Brian at 9.45 am at the Kangaroo Bay car park equipped with a bike suitable for gravel trails.

Tuesday 3 March – Crabtree Crawl
The 24 km Crabtree Crawl on Tuesday 3 March provides a snapshot of the beautiful Huon Valley by bike.
Meet ride leader Jack at 9.45 am the Willie Smith’s Apple Shed in Grove to head out on quieter roads around Lucaston, Ranelagh and Huonville (does include a few short stretches on Huon Highway.

Wednesday 4 March – Mt Pleasant Observatory and Grote Reber Museum
We’re looking for numbers for this ride to reduce the cost of touring the Mt Pleasant Observatory and Grote Reber Museum on Wednesday 4 March.
If we get 10 riders the cost (cash) is $11 each, if not it climbs to $30 each.

Thursday 5 March – Exploring our city’s cycleways
With so much great infrastructure being installed in Hobart the Exploring our City’s Cycleways ride on Thursday 5 March will help you find all the safer routes.
Meet ride leader Geoff at 9.45 am at the 210 Collins Street car park for the 7.2 km ride around Hobart’s bike lanes followed by coffee.

Friday 6 March – Cornelian Bay, Domain and on to Collins St
The 15 km Cornelian Bay, Domain and Collins Street ride on Friday 6 March showcases the trails on Queens Domain and their connection to the cycleway and city centre.
Meet ride leader Brian at 9.45 am at the Cornelian Bay car park, the group will take the cycleway to the Domain for a loop around the trails before heading to Collins Street for a coffee with other bike riders.

Saturday 7 March – Howrah Men’s Shed to Cascades Gardens
The Derwent Ferry runs throughout Saturday, providing a great way to link western and eastern shore bike rides.
Join ride leader Brian at 9.45 am on Saturday 7 March to ride the 23 km from Howrah to Cascade Gardens and back utilising the 10.30 am ferry. There will be a stop at the Cascade restaurant for lunch before returning on the 1.30 pm ferry.

Sunday 8 March – Eastern Shore Loop
End Bike Week with the mighty 63 km Eastern Shore Loop on Sunday 8 March.
Meet ride leader Brian at 9.45 am at the Kangaroo Bay car park for the route on trails and roads – about 75% of surfaces are sealed and about 25% are gravel with a couple of steep climbs.

Thursday 19 March – E-bike Coffee Club: Over the Bridgewater Bridge
A relaxed 38 km ride with fellow riders of e-bikes, the Over the Bridgewater Bridge ride on Thursday 19 March shows you the roads and paths to get to the new bridge and enjoy the views.
Meet ride leader Di at the upper car park at Cornelia Bay at 9.45 am to head along the Intercity Cycleway, Main Road bike lanes and then paths to the bridge.
There will be a café stop along the way, options include Baked in Moonah, Bean to Brew in Bridgewater or the MONA bistro at Berriedale.

Bicycle Network has a partnership with the Tamar Bicycle Users Group to cover its social rides, all Bicycle Network members are welcome to join.

If you would like to be one of our social ride leaders, please email our Rides Coordinator with your contact details and what sort of riding you are interested in and we'll let you know when the next Ride Leader Skills Development Workshop is scheduled.
You don't have to be super fit or into competitive riding, our rides are a mixed bag depending on the interests of our ride leaders. They offer everything from short 1–2 hour rides, with stops along the way, to day-long excursions.
Our ambassador routes have been developed by our social rides coordinator Di with help from other riders. It's another way of helping more people to ride if you don't have the time to run regular social rides.
