Callan Park vision released for feedback
A draft 10-year vision for Sydney's Callan Park featuring improved bike infrastructure has been released for community feedback.

The picturesque inner west park's draft Plan of Management lays out pedestrians and cyclists as a priority, vowing to "invite them to explore the park beyond the Bay Run, improve vehicular movement to increase safety and contain parking to designated areas".

The plan notes that Callan Park is integral to the regional active transport network, forming part of the popular Bay Run and the future Parramatta to Sydney foreshore link, which will provide local links for riders and walkers.

"Walking and cycling connections in and to/from Callan Park should be prioritised given the higher proportion of local no-car households," it states.

The draft plan has been shaped by feedback by more than 2,000 community members, groups and other organisations.

The related draft Access, Movement and Parking Strategy sets out several specific actions that will better conditions for riders:

  • restricting use of the foreshore to pedestrians, cyclists and operational vehicles only
  • introducing a consistent 20km/h speed limit
  • limiting car parking to specific areas
  • establishing a network of paths within the park connecting various destinations
  • improving connections between Callan Park and the external pedestrian and cycle network
  • developing a clear and consistent approach to wayfinding and signage.

The region's population is growing, with just the area five kilometres around Callan Park expected to be home to 415,000 people by 2041.

Greater Sydney Parklands chief executive Joshua French said: "The draft Plan of Management lays out a vision for the park based on what the community wants.

"They told us that improving how people move around, access and park at the park is a priority so the draft access, movement and parking strategy that's being co-exhibited accelerates this important aspect.

"This is the next, exciting step for the community to have their say on Callan Park's future so we can continue to nurture this wonderful asset for the people of Sydney."

The draft Callan Park Plan of Management and the draft Access, Movement and Parking Strategy are open for feedback from community members and other stakeholders until 29 October 2025. You can view the documents and submit feedback here and here.
