Footscray Hospital opens bike routes
Important bike routes through Footscray are open again with the completion of the new $1.5 billion Footscray Hospital.

A new two-way path along Geelong Road in front of the complex is now open following several years of closure of the service road.

Much of surrounding Footscray is yet to see high-quality bike infrastructure, although the building of the Veloway to the city and the development of the hospital complex with its 4,500 staff should provide an impetus for change.

There is a new, unconventionally blue bike path to take riding staff direct to their bike cage.

The cage is believed to have around 500 rails and racks. Unfortunately, the vertical racks are again unconventional, being the type that won't allow bikes with front wheel mudguards to be stored.

We have not seen the rest of the end-of-trip facilities, but we trust that the hot water comes from the tap with the red button.
