With election day less than two weeks away, Labor have (re-) announced their commitments to deliver a shared user path between Montmorency and Eltham.
Eltham district MP Vicki Ward announced in a Facebook post over the weekend that “a re-elected Labor Government will invest $32.8 million to deliver a new shared user path between Montmorency and Eltham, building on the Stage 1 announcement that was funded in this years [sic] budget and completing the Greensborough to Eltham path”.
The shared use path between Greensborough and Montmorency was announced in the Victorian Budget 22/23.
An extension of the shared path from Montmorency to Eltham was also earmarked in a media release from Vicki Ward’s office in May.
The announcement over the weekend appears to reaffirm Labor’s pledge to deliver the full Eltham-Greensborough shared path project if elected.
As pointed out by the MP over the weekend, the new shared path will offer local connections with popular metropolitan trails, including the Main Yarra Trail, Diamond Creek Trail and the Plenty River Trail.
At the funding announcement in May, the President of Banyule Bike Users Group, Peter Gurney said: “when completed the Greensborough to Eltham shared path will be an asset well used by the community and visitors. It will ensure safe, active travel between Eltham and Greensborough and will provide safe links to several schools.”
“It will also provide a wonderful safe cycling loop of the main Yarra trail, Diamond Creek trail and Plenty River trail thus attracting cyclists who will add to the local economies of Montmorency, Eltham and Greensborough.”
