Bream Creek provides perfect setting for escape

Our new Bream Creek Escape ride offers some of Tasmania’s best – rolling hills, wineries, a farmers market, coastal views and starting and ending at the beach.

The 24km self-guided ride gives you plenty of options to stop and enjoy along the way, helping to make a 90-minute ride a half- or full-day experience.

Starting at the Marions Bay car park, which has toilets and water, the ride takes sealed and gravel roads on a loop through farmland with some elevation, getting up to over 200m.

There is a short 1km stretch of riding along the Arthur Highway on a narrow shoulder, which may not suit some riders but apart from that section the roads are mostly quiet.

Along the ride there are several interesting spots to stop.

The first is Cape Bernier Vineyard, which opens Wednesday to Sunday and offers light lunches on the weekend with bookings.

Small wooden shed with blackboard sign on the side and open front showing shelving inside.

The ride then follows the coast and includes spectacular views as well as a very cute roadside stand selling produce from the local community garden. If you are equipped with panniers and are happy with extra weight it’s well worth the stop.

The ride then starts climbing up past the Wielangta Road turnoff then through Kellevie before flattening off and heading down into Copping.

If you are doing the ride on the first Sunday of the month, then a stop at the Bream Creek Farmers Market is mandatory! The volunteer-run market is on from 9am until 1pm and features local fruit and vegetables, native plants, olives, mustards, honey and the very delicious local Tongola goats cheese.

The final stop before hitting the beach is Bream Creek Cellar Door, which is open every day except Tuesday for wine tastings and cheese platters. It’s set in a spectacular spot, with views back over Marion Bay and Maria Island.

Two bikes are parked together on a gravel surface with a wooden building and vines in the distance.

You can finish your ride with a swim in the bay or walk along the 8km beach (at low tide).

Our Ambassador rides are planned and documented by our social rides leader Di Elliffe, with help from some of our other ride leaders and participants. She has collated an impressive 34 routes on the site that take in all parts of the state.

The ride maps can be downloaded and Bicycle Network members can become members of the site's Rides Club and get access to audio cues for all the rides.
