Rolling through June

There’s no slowdown for our social rides this June and plenty of options to keep riders warm as the weather cools. Please remember to RSVP in case of cancellation. At this time of year more people are likely to fall sick – and that can include our ride leaders.

E-bike coffee cruise: the Queens view – Friday 7 June 

Join other e-bike riders for the cruisy ride up to the Queens Domain on Friday 7 June at 10.30am, then head to the monthly Bicycle Network coffee catch up. 

Meet ride leader Di at the front of the Brooke Street Pier at 10.15am for the 11.7km ride along shared paths and a short on-road section to the Queens Domain trails for views of the city, the River Derwent and kunanyi/Mt Wellington.

 Pipeline Track from Fern Tree – Sunday 9 June 

Join ride leader David on Sunday 9 June for an easy ride along the level, unsealed Pipeline Track, following the gentle decline of the old water pipe.  

Meet at 10am at the Fern Tree Tavern for the 25km ride through the beautiful fern-lined forest, with views of the river and fresh air and fun. Stops will be offered to visit waterfalls and see the beginnings of the North West Bay River.

Elderslie Dysart loop – Monday 10 June 

The Elderslie Dysart loop on Monday 10 June will start at Broadmarsh Community Hall and continue uphill along Cockatoo Gully Road to Dysart, then downhill following the Jordan River Valley back to Broadmarsh.  

Meet ride leader David at 9.45am at the Broadmarsh Community Hall for a 10am start for the 39.4km loop, which will mostly be on gravel roads and include an ascent of more than 400m.

Blackmans Bay to Tinderbox loop – Saturday 22 June

The 19km Blackmans Bay to Tinderbox loop on Saturday 22 June is a relaxed ride on rolling hills and offers some spectacular views.

Meet ride leader Jack at The Beach restaurant carpark in Blackmans Bay at 9.45am for the ride on mostly sealed roads (there is a short gravel section) with a morning tea stop at Tinderbox Beach.

Extended Tranmere Trundle – Sunday 23 June

The 30km Tranmere Trundle on Sunday 23 June is a relaxing ride on mostly paths and quiet roads, with a few hills thrown in to wake you up.

Meet ride leader David at 9.45am at the Simmons Park car park in Lindisfarne – you can also meet the group at Kangaroo Bay, but please let David know to look out for you.

NW YuleFest weekend: Longford – 6–7 July 

This is a heads-up for riders across Tasmania who want to join the northwest riders group for a Christmas in July dinner and a weekend of riding out of Longford on 6-7 July. 

Book your own accommodation, but let organiser Helen know if you want to come for dinner.

  • Wednesday 12 June: Cressy to Bishopsbourne, meet ride leader Mick at 9.15am at the Big Fish on Main Road, Cressy. 39km, 20–25km/h pace.
  • Wednesday 19 June: Gravelly Beach to Rowella/Beaconsfield, meet ride leader Mick at 9.15am at the car park at 250 Gravelly Beach Road. 40/46km, 20–25km/h pace.
  • Wednesday 26 June: Westbury to Whitemore, meet ride leader Mick at 9.15am at the sports ground at 21 Franklin Street, Westbury. 42km, 20–25km/h pace.
Upcoming rides & events  

If you would like to be one of our Ride Leaders, please email our Rides Coordinator with your contact details and what sort of riding you are interested in and we'll let you know when the next Ride Leader Skills Development Workshop is scheduled. You don't have to be super fit or into competitive riding, our rides are a mixed bag depending on the interests of our ride leaders. They offer everything from short 1-2 hour rides, with stops along the way to day-long excursions.  

COVID-19 guidelines  

Our social rides leaders follow a set of protocols to help make our rides safer:  

  • Meeting places for rides will have plenty of space for people to maintain 1.5 metre to 2 metre distancing while unloading bikes, listening to the briefing, and getting ready to ride.  
  • Riders are asked to register online or via phone so there is no paper being handed around on the day.   

People are asked not to attend rides if they have fever, cough, sore throat, fatigue, shortness of breath or runny nose or are in mandated isolation.
