Bay Trail rut rectified

A hazardous furrow on the Bay Trail at Brighton has been removed and unwary riders are longer at risk.

City of Bayside contractors filled in the gap between the path and the curb on a short section of the trail near Kinane Avenue.

Bay Trail riders would recognise the location, near a heritage bus stop shelter that narrows the path on the beach side, where the hazardous drop-off narrows the path on the The Esplanade side.

Pedestrians congregating around the shelter further squeezes the passage.

A rider recently suffered injuries and serious bike damage when he was forced to ride too close to the precipitous edge of the path and crashed.

Bicycle Network sought the assistance of the City of Bayside which acted promptly to devise a solution (top photograph).

The council has since conducted an examination of the path through the Brighton Beach and Dendy Beach precinct and has identified opportunities for further improvements.
