Winter pause on Black Forest Drive

The onset of cold weather has delayed some road works on the upgrade of Black Forest Drive through Woodend and Macedon.

Pavement works involving asphalt repairs, resealing and linemarking require warm dry conditions and will resume in spring.

Intersection improvements at South Road, Spencer Road and McBean Avenue will continue over winter.

When completed, the former four-lane highway – which has a shocking crash record for bike riders – will be reconfigured to two lanes and separated bike lanes.

Audio-tactile line marking will be placed on the centre and edge-line marking and a green-surface treatment will be applied on the bike lanes at intersections.

Street lighting will be installed at the new pedestrian refuge locations at Spencer Road/Greig Court and South Road and upgraded lighting will be installed at McBean Avenue.

Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed late 2024.
