Looking for O'Hea Bike Town bikes  

The Merri-Bek Bicycle Users Group is seeking riders who received an O'Hea Bike Town bicycle as part of a giveaway to residents of Coburg and Pascoe Vale when the O'Hea Street bike path was built in 2011.  

Merri-bek BUG spokeswoman Faith Hunter says the group is looking for the bikes as part of a history project.  

"In 2011 Moreland BUG, as Merri-bek BUG was then known, gave away 500 brand new bicycles for our O'Hea Bike Town project. The O'Hea St bike path had just been built and we wanted to build a cycling community," says Hunter.   

"Recognising the difference active transport can make to health outcomes for communities, we sourced a grant and bicycles were given free to residents who committed to keeping a diary of their journeys by bike for a year. " 

Hunter says the bikes were purchased from Bicycle Network (formerly Bicycle Victoria) and had been used by riders on the Great WA Bike Ride.  

"Five hundred bicycles were delivered to Coburg North Primary School on O'Hea Street and 300 volunteers helped residents unbox and build their own bicycles over one weekend," says Hunter.   

"You used to occasionally still see an O'Hea Bike Town bike on the streets of Merri-bek, but not any longer."
