Ride2Work Day, Bicycle Network’s biggest celebration of commuter cycling, is back on 15th October 2025, and it’s set to be bigger and better than ever especially for locals riding past Joan.
Last year, Joan – a popular coffee shop in Melbourne's Brunswick East – hosted a vibrant Ride2Work Day event, bringing together riders from across the area for a morning of coffee, treats, and community connection. The motivation? A passion for sustainable, alternative transport and a desire to make riding more accessible for everyone.
“It was a great opportunity to facilitate a community gathering,” said Guy Willoughby, Joan co-owner. “We met so many new faces and loved seeing the buzz of people connecting over their ride to work.”
This year, excitement is already building, not just for the event itself, but for new improvements to the streetscape. A more pedestrian- and rider-friendly bike lane is currently in the works out the front of Joan, helping make the ride in smoother, safer and more enjoyable.
With better infrastructure and a growing riding community, Joan is ready to welcome even more riders this October. “Expect this year to be our biggest yet!”
So dust off your helmet, check your tyres and mark your calendar for October 15, it’s time to ride to work.
And it’s not too late for businesses to get involved! Wherever you're based in Australia, sign up to host your own public Ride2Work Day breakfast and help kickstart the day with coffee, snacks and a welcoming environment for your local bike riding community. It’s a fantastic way to promote sustainability, support local cyclists and engage with customers in a meaningful way.
