Hundreds head to Big Bike Film Night
More than 200 people showed up at the Big Bike Film Night in Hobart this week to check out the beauty of riding through Pakistan, the low-key six-corners challenge and heart-tugging results of Cycling without Age.
We had a stall outside the theatre, along with the Tasmanian Bike Collective, and gave away two goodie bags to people who signed up to receive our In the Loop newsletter.
If you missed out, you can still catch the very entertaining Big Bike Film night in Launceston this Friday and St Helens on Saturday: https://bigbikefilmnight.nz/buy-tickets/big-bike-film-night-australia/. Other films include skiers riding to the slopes to highlight climate change effects, an enduro biker who shuns the shuttle to ride between trails, and a gravel bike that thinks it’s a mountain bike!

Bikelinc registrations now include ghost labels
The Crime Stoppers and police Bikelinc website now includes a field for the registration numbers for MicroDOT ghost labels.
The labels can be bought for $30 and applied to bikes to help track them down if they are stolen.
The Bikelinc site allows bike owners to register photos and details of their bike so if it’s stolen Tasmania Police has more information to track it down. This is especially useful when police find a haul of stolen goods and are trying to identify owners.

Active transport supporters in parliament
While we wait for the first day of parliament, it’s worth noting the members of parliament who supported our call for retention of the Better Active Transport grants.
Helen Burnett (Greens), Kristy Johnston and David O’Byrne supported our call, and Dr George Razay supported safer active transport to improve health and solve traffic congestion.
Dean Winter (Labor) said a new budget process had to be gone through and Jeremy Rockliff (Liberal) said a new cycling and walking strategy and action plan for the state would be released soon and funding would be considered in the context of that.
