The City of Melbourne is seeking community feedback on several corporate planning documents which will guide its future direction in the long and medium term.
Included are:
- the M2050 Vision
- the Council Plan and integrated Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan
- the Asset Plan
- the Financial Plan.
The documents are available

Bicycle Network was directly involved in the M2050 process as we think a modern transportation system, with an emphasis on public and active transport and on city logistics, should be at the heart of any big city economy.
Many other participants shared this view and some great strategic ideas were developed.
However, there is little in the draft vision document to reflect that thinking. The words ‘transport’ and ‘economic’ are mentioned just twice.
The other documents for feedback are somewhat obtuse, but they all contain images of bicycles. Very reassuring.
The city is growing at a rapid pace and requires continuing investment to meet the demands of the growing population and expanding commercial and cultural activity.
And as the city approaches its 200th birthday in 2035, many physical assets are ageing and in need of expensive replacement.
Viewing Melbourne’s future through the blurry lenses of these documents suggests the current administration at Town Hall would benefit from some clear-eyed community feedback.
Consultation closes on 21 September 2025.
