The joint federal–state government project that upgraded parking for bikes and cars at 51 railway stations across Victoria has reached a major milestone.
The program has delivered 15 secure Parkiteer bicycle cages, more than 700 bicycle hoops, two bus interchanges, and upgrades to CCTV and lighting as well as 390 accessible car spaces.
Importantly, the project ensured that new and upgraded bike paths to these stations were provided where needed.
More than 21,000 new and upgraded car parking spaces have been provided.
The milestone was reached with the opening of a new car park at Watergardens Station, in Melbourne’s north-west, with 485 new car spaces, 26 accessible spaces and 70 new bicycle spaces, with a secure Parkiteer cage for 26 bikes.
The Acting Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Murray Watt said: “We have partnered with Victoria to deliver new and upgraded car parks across the state so that it’s easier for people to hop on the train and get where they need to go.”
Victorian Minister for Transport Infrastructure Gabrielle Williams said: “By backing these car park projects in Melbourne and across regional Victoria, we’re delivering for communities in our fast-growing suburbs – making it easier for families to use public transport and helping to ease congestion in local streets.
