As works progress on the upgrade to the Canterbury Road and Heathmont Road intersection, detours for riders along the Heathmont Trail will soon kick in.
Contractors for the Department of Transport and Planning have completed
traffic signal works, including installing new infrastructure above and below the ground, construction of a new centre median on the bridge, drainage improvements and bridge strengthening works.
The next stage of construction will require preparation works on the bridge and the footpath on the northern side of the bridge.
This will temporarily close the footpath on the northern side of the bridge on Saturday 4 July and Sunday 5 July between 7am and 5pm each day.
A signed detour will be in place for pedestrians via the footpath on the southern side of the bridge.
Pedestrians and bike riders continuing along the Heathmont Rail Trail can detour via the rail crossing, north of Heathmont Station.
There will be further changes to traffic management soon. Further details will be provided close to the date.
This project is expected to be complete by late 2026.
