Kingborough MTB Park closing

The Kingborough Mountain Bike Park will go from Sunday 31 May to allow construction of the Tasmanian Devils training facilities.

Construction on the site will last about two years and new mountain bike trails and pump track will be rebuilt as part of the new facilities.

Council staff are exploring options for a temporary pump track at an alternative location to provide an interim riding facility during construction.

Launceston considers bikes in Cameron Street

The City of Launceston has called for designs for Cameron Street that include street trees, improved footpaths, cycleways, traffic and “public realm” upgrades.

The advertisement for the work mentions the desirability of housing markets in the street and connecting Royal Park, Civic Square and City Park.

The opportunity for businesses to tender for the work closes on 15 June.

Swansea–Freycinet bicycle crossing

A new ferry service has sprung up to carry riders and bikes across the Swan River between Swanwick and Dolphin Sands, eliminating a chunk of highway riding from many east coast adventures.

The boat can take up to 10 people and will also carry bikes, cost $35 per person.

Hobart maintenance workshops extended

Eudaimonia Cycling Tours and Giant Hobart are opening their bike maintenance workshops to the public, with the next session scheduled for 9 June.

Macquarie St works in May

State Roads are working at night to repair and resurface Macquarie Street in Hobart between Barrack and Harrington streets, starting on Wednesday 6 May.

Most riders shouldn’t be affected with work happening between 7.30 pm and 5.30 am, but beware of the works as the road surface may be uneven until it’s all due to finish on Tuesday 19 May.
