Merri-bek offering e-bike subsidies

Families with children living in Melbourne's inner north can now buy or rent an e-bike for a subsidised rate, thanks to funding from Merri-bek City Council.

The Ride & Stride e-bike subsidy offers families 50% off a weekly e-bike subscription for 3 months (up to the value of $500) or $500 off the purchase price of a new or refurbished e-bike.

The subsidy is available to Merri-bek residents with children at any childcare, kindergarten or primary school within the municipality.

The subsidy is offered in collaboration with two local bike shops — Cargocycles and Lug & Carrie — and applies to a select range of models.

The subsidy is intended as a relief measure as the fuel crisis continues to put pressure on families.

Switching from driving to riding an e-bike can save significant money, as well as offering fantastic health and environmental benefits.

The subsidy is part of Merri-bek City Council's Ride & Stride program, which aims to get more children using active transport to get to school.

A limited number of subsidies are available. The offer ends 30 June 2026, or once the allocation is exhausted.

Subsidies will be allocated on a first come, first served basis, and are limited to one per household.
