The long and disruptive closure is over. Dandenong Creek Trail is open again at Dandenong South and riders are again cruising along the path on the levee bank.
The section of the path from Perry Road to EastLink was closed in May for works to raise the level of the levees.
The problem was that there was no alternative detour that was acceptable to Greater Dandenong Council, and riders who used the route through the flood-prone area for commuting or recreation were hung out to dry.
Melbourne’s wet spring delayed the re-opening by a few weeks, frustrating riders keen to get back on the only connection through the area.
The contractors have been busy undertaking final details and cleaning up the area, but it is all good to go now.
