No main without pain

The renewal of the M41 water main through North Fitzroy will periodically inconvenience riders who take the busy Napier Street route.

But on Monday there will be a pleasant surprise for riders.

Melbourne Water has detours and traffic management in place when necessary as the project moves to various locations between the Edinburgh Gardens and East Melbourne.

The Edinburgh Gardens detour is along Alfred Crescent.

In a few days site works will get underway for tunnelling under Alexander Parade near the Fitzroy. Tunnelling and associated works will last five months.

The existing main is more than 100 years old and supplies water to 350,000 people and to businesses in the inner suburbs.

The project will continue through the end of next year.

See map showing routes of existing main and new main.

Free bike tune up to sweeten the blow

Melbourne Water greatly appreciates the cooperation of riders during the duration of the project.

This Monday 11 June, riders on the route will be offered a free bike tune up to help put a smile on their faces.

Between 4pm and 6pm the team from 99 Bikes will be set up in Edinburgh Gardens to tune up your sturdy steed.
