Kingston roundabout proposal up for comment

The state government has released designs for an upgrade of the Southern Outlet from Groningen Road in Kingston through to Algona Road in Huntingfield, but a shared path to link Kingston to Huntingfield does not seem to be included in the works.

The major feature of the redesign is a new road overpass for vehicle traffic between Kingston and Margate and a second roundabout to improve traffic movements.

A “future” shared path would start at the back of Hollyhock Drive and link to the Park and Ride in Huntingfield including crossing two slip lanes, one that it is two lanes wide.

Bicycle Network will be making a submission on the plans pointing out the path needs to be built as part of the project and not shoved off to “the future”, and should involve an over or underpass so people don’t have to dodge cars travelling at high speed to cross the slip lanes.

You can comment on the plans until 17 July at https://stategrowthtas.mysocialpinpoint.com/kingston-bypass-algona-roundabout/kingston-bypass-and-algona-road-roundabout-page-1/

St Helens to get pump track

The Tasmanian Government has added another $400 000 to the already promised $100 000 to build a pump track at St Helens.

The funding will mostly be delivered in this financial year, with the asphalt track currently being designed by Break O'Day Council, although the exact location has not been decided.

Work is due to start early next year, with a finished track by October 2023.

Council candidate sets up mobility survey

One of the candidates for this year’s Hobart City Council election, Ryan Posselt, has set up a survey to identify problems with transport and possible solutions.

There are six categories: bike lanes and cycling; footpaths; pedestrian crossings and kerbs; roads; intersections; and bus stops.

Ryan says he will send the results to the council regardless of whether he’s elected.
