Macauley Road bike route disruption

The busy Macauley Road bike route through Kensington faces a period of disruption as works on the Epsom Road Sewer renewal move further east.

The sewer underneath Macaulay Road, Kensington, between Henry Street and Eastwood Street is being relined to provide another 50 years of operation.

Bike lanes will be closed in sections of Macaulay Road, between Henry Street and Eastwood Street from Sunday 28 August at night.

Macaulay Road will be closed between Henry Street and Gower Street from 10pm until 5am from Monday 29 August, for two nights. Local detours will be in place.

Parking bays and bike lanes on Macaulay Road will be unavailable as these will be used for through traffic around our work zones which are in the middle of the road.

Lining will take 2-3 days and nights and will operate continuously.

While there will still be through traffic during the day, road users will need to slow down around the work zones and we expect there will higher than usual traffic congestion in this area.

Traffic controllers will provide support around the work zones.

Melbourne Water and its contractors understand the impact this big project will have on bike riders and the community and are mitigating this impact where possible and will finish the work as quickly as they can.
