Narrabeen Lagoon bridge now open

The newly opened walking and riding bridge at Pittwater Road, Northern Beaches, is the latest addition to the 8.6km Narrabeen Lagoon Trail.

This new steel bridge runs parallel with Pittwater Road and offers users sweeping views of the lagoon.

Most importantly, the bridge increases the safety of walkers and riders by separating them from motor vehicle traffic running along Pittwater Road.

Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan said that the new bridge will eliminate bottlenecks at the Pittwater Road bridge, allowing walkers and riders to move freely.

“Shared paths are a crucial part of our planning and is not only good for our health, the environment and reducing traffic congestion, but it creates more accessibility to our villages and town centres,” Mayor Regan said.

This $3.6 million project was funded by Transport for NSW, and will be a breath of fresh air for local riders, following controversial move by Council in July to scrap plans for cycleways across Northern Beaches.

The Narrabeen Lagoon Trail, where the new bridge is located, is an easy circuit that takes walkers and riders around the Narrabeen Lakes, approximately 30km north of the Sydney CBD.
