Disruptions at Preston

Now that the level crossings at Preston is removed, works will expand on landscaping activities around the station precinct and there may be some impact on bike traffic.

Works will continue until Friday 23 December 2022 and then resume from Monday 9 January 2023.

Road and footpath closures in December 2022 include:

  • Cramer Street. Closed on Tuesday 6 December from Edith St to Mary Street 7am to 6pm. Southern footpath also closed, pedestrian detour via northern footpath.
  • St Georges Road. Footpath closed from Pinnacle Apartments to rail bridge on Murray Road from 7am Tuesday 6 December to 3pm Saturday 10 December.
  • Railway Place East. Closed north of Oakover Road in late December, local traffic access maintained.
  • William Street. Right of Way reopens from 5pm on Friday 23 December.

Road and footpath closures in January 2023 include:

  • William Street Right of Way. Will close from mid January to 12 February for screen installation
  • Clinch Avenue. Closed from Murray Road to William Street from Monday 16 January to Thursday 19 January 2023.

There will be various lane closures throughout December and January on Bell Street, Murray Road, Oakover Road and Railway Place East.

Pedestrian crossings, footpath and station car parking may also be closed at times.

Traffic management will be in place to help you move around the impacted areas.

The four level crossings at Oakover Road, Bell Street, Cramer Street and Murray Road were removed and new stations Bell and Preston were situated by raising the rail line over the roads and creating new open spaces that will be completed in 2023.

Works include:

  • Landscaping and fencing across the project
  • Playground and recreation area installation
  • Completion of the Bell Station Amphitheatre
  • Footbridge installation at Railway Place West
  • Removal of site sheds on Murray Road Furniture installation at Preston station
  • Asphalting at Preston, city Oval and Herbert Street Car park works at Clinch Avenue
