Barwon Heads Road detours rejigged

The first stage of the Barwon Heads Road upgrade has passed the halfway mark and a major section – containing an on-road bike facility – will open soon.

This means the long detour bike riders have been obliged to take around the project will be moved to a more direct route.

From Friday 10 March all lanes on Barwon Heads Road between Reserve and Marshalltown roads will be open to traffic, including the new on-road cycling lanes.

Previously the alternative bike route has been via Warralily Boulevard and Surf Coast Highway.

See the map for the new route. It still includes a diversion along the Surf Coast Highway while work continues between Settlement and Marshalltown roads over the coming months.

Major Roads Projects Victoria will remove the current detour signage.

Stage 1 when completed will provide 4 km of new shared walking and cycling path and dedicated on road cycling lanes.
