City of Kingston seeks feedback on bike vision

The City of Kingston in Melbourne’s southeast has a new vision for bikes and is seeking community feedback to make it a reality.

The draft Walking and Cycling Plan 2023-2028 is based on a previous consultation, in which the community provided hundreds of responses on potential projects to make the area more amenable to walking and bike riding.

A total of 40 projects have been identified to this end and now the city needs help prioritising them.

Consultation is now open and the community is invited to vote on which projects they think are needed most and offer feedback on the draft via an online survey.

Among the projects in the draft plan are proposals to:

  • Build a wider, raised boardwalk along the Longbeach Trail at Edithvale Road
  • Improve the connection between the Bay Trail and Mentone Life Saving Club
  • Complete a gap in the shared path on Springvale Road in Braeside
  • Improve the road crossing and accessibility at the Waves Leisure Centre in Cheltenham

The City of Kingston seeks to increase participation in bike riding and walking, and says has a relatively flat topography and existing network of quiet residential streets, kerbside bike lanes and shared paths.
