Delay on Shepherd Bridge

Riders may face a delay when heading over Shepherd Bridge in Footscray this weekend.

The bike and pedestrian bridge alongside the road bridge is expected to be closed for a limited period while the road bridge is closed to all traffic for the weekend.

There will be one closure of up to 15 minutes of the Shepherd Bridge shared path to enable a crane to remove an overhead gantry sign during the weekend. The Hopetoun Bridge over the Maribyrnong River just upstream will be available during this time.

The weekend bridge closure – from 8pm Friday 14 April to 5.30am Monday 17 April – is to allow for the delivery of oversized steel beams to the site of the new bridge over the river, which links the elevated roadway above Footscray Road to the West Gate Tunnel.

Signs will be in place for path users and traffic controllers will help direct bike riders and pedestrians.

The works are in addition to the long-term carriageway closures on Footscray Road.
