New paths under construction on Blind Creek Trail

The next phase of Melbourne Water’s project to re-naturalise Blind Creek in Wantirna South includes  works to renew concrete paths through the precinct.

From Monday 8 May the trail will be temporarily closed to allow works on the paths. Signed detours through local streets will take bike riders around the work zone. The works are expected to be complete by the end of June.

The creek, which formerly flowed underground through huge pipes, now flows above ground through sections of Lewis Park. In future years bike riders and walkers will again experience the full pleasure of the  the creek's natural environment.

The Reimagining Blind Creek project included improvements to the creek between Manuka Drive and Scoresby Road in 2020 .

A total of 6.3 km of new shared paths—some concrete and some gravel—are being laid, and boardwalks and viewing platforms will be installed through the new wetlands system.

About 1.65 kms of Blind Creek is being naturalised. This includes planting of 1700 trees for improved shade and cooling and 676,941 plants for biodiversity and habitat.

The main construction works are expected to be complete in mid-2024, with minor activities including reinstatement to be completed in 2025.
