New trail in Melbourne’s southeast

The new trail linking Lynbrook, Merinda Park and Cranbourne stations in Melbourne’s southeast has opened.

The 4.25km path was constructed as part of the Cranbourne train line upgrade.

Announced in 2019, the project provides a 3 metre concrete trail to link the residential area north of Lynbrook Station and connect users to Merinda Park Station and Camms Road, Cranbourne.

Construction has also started on the Camms Road level crossing removal, which will connect the shared user path to Cranbourne Station. Works are underway on a new road bridge over the rail line, and the project is due to end in 2024.

By linking up with the already existing pathways, the path will improve access to shops, schools, and medical services.

Thousands of local residents and hundreds of local businesses will benefit, according to the Level Crossings Removal Project. It says the new path is within 1km of 13,000 homes and will boost the health and wellbeing of these growing communities, making leaving the car at home more viable, and freeing up car parks at the stations.

The Cranbourne line upgrade includes 8km of duplicated tracks between Cranbourne and Dandenong and the new Merinda Park Station.

Fifteen level crossings will be removed on the Cranbourne Line.
