Stiff winds to flex Footscray Road detour timetable

For up-to-date detour information, scroll to the bottom of this article.

Construction works to lift steel beams above the Appleton Dock Road entry to the Port of Melbourne will require overnight bike route closures on Footscray Road during July. The works are weather sensitive and will be subject to re-scheduling at short notice.

Cranes will be used to lift large overhead road segments above the existing Appleton Dock Road, meaning the Footscray Road Trail will need to be closed several times each week.

Week day closures will occur for 12 hours (8pm-8am) while works are conducted overnight. Some longer 24-hour closures (from 3pm) will be required on weekends. Riders are advised to follow detours and plan or reschedule their trips.

The works are susceptible to wind and rain and the listed closures may need to to be cancelled or rescheduled in windy or wet conditions. In Melbourne's weather conditions, sometimes that will occur at short notice.

Bicycle Network and the West Gate Tunnel Authority will publish the updates when new closure dates are added to the program.

Electronic VMS messaging boards at each end of Footscray Road will indicate when the route is open or closed.

Bicycle Network will keep this page updated with the current status. Riders are advised to check back to this URL at any time for the latest information on cancellations and re-schedules. Bookmark this page.
