A fresh set of mountain bike trails is attracting thrillseekers to Fremantle, and offering challenging features they can't find elsewhere in Western Australia.

The Booyeembara Park Mountain Bike Trails opened earlier this month and is home to Western Australia's first micro downhill trails, which consist of two 400 metre downhill tracks designed for intermediate and experienced riders.

One is a blue trail with fast lines over hips, shark fins, berms and rollers and the second is a black trail with a wooden wall ride, step-ups and tabletops for the more advanced.

A pump track is on offer for beginners seeking to develop their skills before moving to more challenging routes.

The trails are set in picturesque Booyeembara Park in the White Gum Valley, which was once a quarry and a tip. It has been reimagined as a 16-hectare public park replete with native plants and wildlife.

The trail hub area boasts shelters and seating areas for spectators to take in the action, plus drinking fountains and barbecues.

The project was funded through $300,000 from the City of Fremantle, $300,000 from the State Government and $800,000 from Lotterywest.
