Disruption at Haymarket roundabout

Bike riders may be inconvenienced over the coming weeks as works get underway to upgrade the tram stop at Melbourne’s Haymarket roundabout.

From mid-September until early December, traffic signalling, median and kerb works will take place on Elizabeth Street on the northern side of the roundabout as part of early works to upgrade stop 10 on the No.19 tram route running along Elizabeth Street/Royal Parade.

To enable these works, the northern pedestrian crossing on Elizabeth Street, north of the Haymarket roundabout, will close until early December while adjustments are made to the footpath and kerb on Elizabeth Street, and to the traffic signal infrastructure.

The northern pedestrian crossing will close to pedestrians, who will be directed north to the pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Grattan and Elizabeth streets.

Bike riders crossing east to west on Elizabeth Street will need to walk their bikes at the Haymarket roundabout, diverted north to the Grattan Street and Elizabeth Street intersection.

Riders moving west to east will be able to use the existing cycling lane on the northern side of the Haymarket roundabout.

Construction works will be carried out during standard working hours (from 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday and from 7am to 1pm Saturdays).
