Caulfield Racecourse bike trails still in plan

The ambitious plans for community facilities to be included in the redevelopment of Caulfield Racecourse Reserve have been curtailed, but plans for a bike trail through the precinct and a criterium bike race track are still in the mix.

The trust that manages the racecourse reserve has been working on plans to open the complex for a greater range of uses for several years.

It is in the final throes of community consultation for a new strategic management plan to guide the development of this large, important area of public land.

To remind the trust of the importance of bike access through this area, now and in the, please make a submission to the new Strategic Management Plan for Caulfield Racecourse Reserve by emailing info@crrt.org.au by Wednesday 4 October with Strategic Management Plan as the subject title.

You can review the Strategic Management Plan here.

The latest plans envisage recreational cycling, and criterium training and event facilities on the racecourse ‘flat’ (Precincts 3 and 4) on the infield of the racecourse that would be available on non-race days.

Cycling clubs in Melbourne's south east are particularly keen on the full realisation of the criterium track as the facilities at Sandown Park will be lost with the redevelopment of that site.
