Final plans for North East Link paths on show

The North East Link Project has finalised designs for 20km of bike infrastructure to be delivered across the project.

The final plans for the urban design and landscaping elements of the Eastern Freeway and M80 Ring Road expansions are on exhibition.

They include bike trails, walking paths, new and improved bridges, underpasses and other design and environmental improvements that encourage active transport.

Not all the biking and walking components of the project are included in the exhibition as some were exhibited and approved earlier.

All the active transport concepts were made public in the development stages of the project.

The NELP project must meet environmental approvals so later designs are subject to formal planning approval, which is underway.

Full documentation and opportunities to comment on the Eastern Freeway upgrades are available here.

And there are details of the Ring Road expansion here.

Included in the plans for the Eastern Freeway upgrade are concept designs for a new underpass on the Koonung Creek Trail in Balwyn North and a new footbridge at Heyington Avenue in Doncaster.

The plans for the Ring Road upgrades include two wide landscaped bridges at Elder Street and Watsonia Road for improved access to Watsonia Station and the surrounding shops.

Both plans are open for public comment until the end of the month.
