Take RMIT's bikeability survey to help improve riding in Melbourne

RMIT researchers looking at ways to improve conditions for bike riders across greater Melbourne have launched a survey to better understand routes that are safe, and those that need improvement.

The Bikeability Survey for Greater Melbourne aims to uncover how the built environment affects bike rider experiences.

Are there particular features that make a bike route challenging or unsafe? Are there features that make it stress-free and convenient?

The team at RMIT's Centre for Urban Research is looking to learn more about the common routes riders take, and why. It plans to look at what's important to riders and understand more about their day-to-day bike journeys.

Research insights will be used to develop a bikeability index, which the team envisions as an innovative tool to evaluate the bike-friendliness of cities around the world.

The survey takes 20 to 30 minutes to complete and involves the use of an interactive map. Users can highlight specific routes and areas of interest, and share their own personal experiences to complement the data.

Survey participants will also go into the draw to win a $500, a $300 and a $200 voucher for 99bikes.
