What's on in the bike riding community?

Spring is in the air and it's a great time to be out enjoying life on two wheels. Looking for a little camaraderie and community spirit while you do it? Here are a few fun events to get those wheels turning.

Critical Mass North Spooky Edition: Melbourne, 27 October

This month, the Critical Mass bike ride is taking to the streets of Melbourne's north to protest for better conditions for people who ride bikes. The Halloween-themed ride starts at the State Library at 5.30pm on Friday 27 October, will pick up riders at the Park Street Reserve in Fitzroy at approximately 6pm, and end at All Nations Park in Northcote. Ride into History: Yarra Ranges, 11 and 12 November

The Lilydale to Warburton Rail Trail is a magnificent riding route through the Yarra Valley, but why not experience a little history while you're at it? The Upper Yarra Historical Society is hosting slow-paced bike rides across two evenings from Warburton to the Upper Yarra Museum Yarra Junction, with performances, projections, drinks and treats along the way. Secret Dyarubbin River Ride: Windsor (NSW), 3 December

In early December, a group of riders will set off on an adventure through the flood-affected region of Windsor and the Hakwesbury River in NSW as part of their efforts to help local communities. The Secret Dyarubbin River Ride is a no-drop, no-pass ride that will visit colonial tenements, First Nations historical sites, cafes and rest stops. Read more.
