Recall: Cannondale MTB weld fail

Cannondale and GT Bicycles have recalled a range of mountain/jump bikes because the frames are missing a critical weld that may result in frames tubes breaking apart.

Although different bands, the bikes are near-identical in design and manufacture and share a distributor.

The Cannondale Dave 26-inch bicycles and frames should have two welds connecting the down tube to the head tube, but the recalled products only have one, making the connection weaker.

The GT LaBomba 26- and 24-inch models have the same faults as the Cannondale Dave.

If the weld becomes damaged, the head tube may separate from the frame while the bicycle is being used, resulting in a risk of crash and serious injury to the user.

According to the distributor incidents have occurred where the down tube has partially or fully separated from the bicycle frame.

The models are especially aimed at use on pump trucks and riding involving jumps and trick moves.

Consumers should stop riding their bicycle immediately and return it to an authorised Cannondale or GT dealer to have the frame replaced.

You can find your local dealer by visiting https://www.cannondale.com/en-au/find-a-dealer or visiting https://gtbicycles.com/pages/dealer-locator

The Cannondale product was sold through authorised Cannondale dealers internationally and online between 18 June 2021 and 11 October 2023 while the GT product was sold through authorised GT Bicycle dealers internationally and online between 23 Feb 2019 and 10 Nov 2023.
