Council elections an opportunity for better bike municipalities

Want better bike facilities and initiatives in your local area?

Local governments have a vital role to play in creating people-friendly streets that support active transport and Victorian council elections will be held in October.

Your local Bicycle User Groups (BUGs) are actively pursuing improvements that encourage bike riding and walking.

Bicycle Network will host a night to help prepare BUGs and individuals to identify and support local candidates who are committed to pursuing active transport improvements.

Come along to our offices at Level 4, 246 Bourke Street on Wednesday 3 April, from 6pm to 7.30pm to learn more about how you can support candidates who support your active transport interests.

We will discuss topics including candidate surveys, campaign resources, candidate engagement, use of social media and gaining media interest.

BUGs which have previously successfully supported local candidates will be on hand to provide tips and insight.

The night is open to anyone who has an interest in better active transport, you do not have to be a BUG member. You can find out more about your local BUG here.

Bicycle Network members support our advocacy work and allow us to host nights like this one. Membership includes comprehensive riding insurance, riders' rights and legal support. We also offer an Advocacy Membership. Find out more here.
