Little La Trobe closes for Station works

Construction of the Metro Tunnel State Library Station will continue to be a nuisance and disrupt riding routes through the north of the CBD, but for the time being the impacts will be relatively mild.

Works will soon be underway on the main station entrance in Swanston Street, the construction of two above ground structures on the Little La Trobe Street site, fit-out of the underground station and the reinstatement of public spaces.

Little La Trobe Street between Elizabeth and Swanston Streets will be closed long term with no through access to Little La Trobe Street from Swanston Street for bikes or motor vehicles.

Access to and from Little La Trobe Street and Literature Lane will be maintained via Elizabeth Street with a two-way traffic flow arrangement in place between Elizabeth Street and Baskerville Lane.

Pedestrian access on Little La Trobe Street between Swanston and Elizabeth streets will be maintained.

Traffic management will be in place to guide pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists around the work area.

Meanwhile, at the Franklin Street West site the shed has been totally removed and Franklin Street east-bound is currently open.

The large shed on the east of Swanston Street starts coming down this week, with cladding removal underway soon. Bike riders in Swanston Street should not be impacted although there will be footpath closures.

Looking ahead, in the south of the CBD there will be bike lane closures with detours in June and July in Swanston and Collins Streets with the removal of gantries, cranes and other works.
