St Kilda Road bike lane closures

Tram works in St Kilda Road will close the southbound bike lane for a week this month.

Bike riders will be able to take the official detour to the east via the Domain Parklands and South Yarra,  or choose a route to the south via South Melbourne and Middle Park.

The roadway will be closed to all southbound traffic between Dorcas Street and Toorak Road beginning 8pm Sunday 7 April through to 6 am Saturday 13 April.

The Melbourne Metro Tunnel project is constructing tram tracks from St Kilda Road into Domain road.

The work will be underway 24 hours a day.

To reduce impacts to traffic these works are timed to coincide with the school holidays.

The official bike detour is via Government House Drive, Birdwood Avenue, Domain Road, Domain Street, and Bromby Street back to St Kilda Road.

Because of the school holidays there will be no school related traffic in the Melbourne Grammar School precinct.

Some riders with a destination towards the East may choose to continue on Domain Street and ride through Fawkner Park.

Those with destinations closer to the Bay may choose options such as Moray Street and Albert Park.

Pedestrian access will be closed along the eastern side of St Kilda Road between Park Street and Melbourne Grammar School.

A pedestrian detour will be in place via the western side of St Kilda Road and the Anzac Station tram stop.
